Manganese Alloys Committee
6 Manganese alloy producers are currently active Members of the Manganese Alloys Committee:
- Eramet Comilog Manganese through their affiliated companies in France and Norway
- Grupo FerroGlobe (Spain/France/Norway)
- Huta Laziska (Poland)
- OFZ Istebne (Slovakia)
Like the FeSi and Silicon Committees, the Mn Alloys Committee is a Trade Committee addressing Commercial Policy issues and Trade Defence.
Products and their uses
Manganese can be provided to the iron and steel industry in 2 different alloy grades:
- Ferro-manganese, as defined by the ISO 5446, which can be either standard (High Carbon FeMn) or refined (Medium and Low Carbon FeMn);
- Ferro-silico-manganese (or more often simply silico-manganese), defined by ISO 5447 with standard and low carbon grades.
Both alloys are used to introduce the necessary manganese content into the melts in order to meet the required specifications, but, owing to its silicon content, silico-manganese also presents the advantage of contributing to the deoxidation process.
The production process of Mn Alloys are described under Chapter Production Processes
